Herniated Disc

Spinal columns are made from a series of bones known as Vertebrae's. These Vertebrae's are cushioned by Disc's which absorb the shocks from daily activities. Each Disc has two parts, a soft, gelatinous inner portion and a tough outer portion. A Herniated Disc is when the inner portion of a Disc protrudes through the outer portion.

Symptoms may include:

  • unexplained muscle weakness

  • tingling, burning or aching sensations in the affected area

Herniated Disc's can be caused by:

  • age - with age the outer Disc ring can weaken or tear, allowing the inner portion to slip out

  • twisting or turning motions while lifting an object

  • being overweight - Disc's must support the additional weight
