Celiac Plexus Block
What is a Celiac Plexus Block?
The celiac plexus is a group of nerves that surround the aorta, the main artery into your abdomen. A celiac plexus block is a diagnostic test whereby pain medication is injected to help provide temporarily relief of abdominal pain. The procedure is performed under local anesthetic which should wear off in a few hours. Usually the procedure takes less than 30 minutes and you are able to go home on the same day. Pain relief varies by patient with some experiencing relief from weeks to years.
